Well, the news has been out... that Singapore has been shortlisted as one of the final two cities to host the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (
YOG). Of course, this is a piece of good news... considering that we were competing against 8 other cities at the starting line in Nov 07. I'm pretty proud to say I played a part in the bid document for the
YOG! It was really a concerted effort by the Spore team. The timeline was short... and we really wanted to put up a strong bid. So its a big well-done to us, now that we're in the final two.
However, I must admit that it is with mixed feeling that I am looking forward to the final result. On one hand, I do hope Spore will win the bid cos it will put us on the world stage once more. Also it will be a great honour for Spore to host the first
YOG and thus set the benchmark for future
YOG.
Afterall, I did played my part (read: hours of drafting and redrafting, meetings after meetings, research and data gathering, and of course OT!) . It will be very satisfying to have our efforts recognised by all
IOC members.
However, if we do win the bid... it will simply mean more work for me cos we need to get everything we had promised to come to pass... within the next 2 years. It's a really short time frame considering that the main
Olympic event has years and years to prepare. Once we win the bid, it will be full steam ahead.... until 2010!! I'm sure there will be more, much much more, hours of meetings, negotiation, planning, organising and running around. I'm already going crazy thinking of it!!
haha...
Well... let's just await for the result
lah. Do hope Singapore will win the bid. Let's continue to pour our support for Singapore 2010: Blazing the Trail! Those who are interested to find out more can check out the
